奥斯陆大学成立于1811年，是挪威最大最古老的一所大学，也是一所重要的学术院校。奥斯陆大学有36000名学生（包括获得博士学位的学生），来自世界各地的国际学生大约有2000名，大学的教员大约有2500名。奥斯陆大学有8个学院，56个系，还有许多诊所，研究中心和博物馆。奥斯陆大学曾培养了4名诺贝尔奖的得主，这显示了他研究的实力。
